HYDROGEN

Hydrogen production by steam-methane reforming or electrolysis is very energy intensive. In the steam reforming process, natural gas is converted into hydrogen and carbon dioxide through a reaction with high temperature steam. Heat exchangers are used to recover the heat generated by the exothermic reaction and to preheat the incoming reactants, reducing the amount of energy required to maintain the reaction temperature. In the transportation of hydrogen, heat exchangers are then used to cool and compress the gas to increase its density, reduce its volume, making it easier to transport.
